What should a science fiction+fantasy book have?

i am trying to write a science fiction book with a fantasy element in it(gods, mainly), and it has all basic elements a science fiction book and a fantasy book should have: humans, some type of alien species, different language, etc, etc. however, i am unsure of how to start this book, and i wish to make this book interesting and higher reader worthy. can someone please help me?
